Influencers ‘infuriate’ fans by boasting about luxury lives during cost-of-living crisis

Social media influencers are “infuriating” fans by showing off their lavish life styles, despite the ongoing cost of living crisis, a new poll has found.

According to a survey by influencer agency Room Unlocked, 60% of Brits revealed they find “cash-rich lifestyles” of influencers are making them mad amid huge household bills.

A further 24% added that comparing their lives to those of content creators negatively affects their mental health, which has resulting in Brits buying less products marked by content creators.

“I don’t think it is any surprise that over half of Brits say that following the cash-rich lifestyles of influencers amidst the cost of living crisis is infuriating,” Room Unlocked CEO and co-founder and Sky Sports presenter Alex Payne said.

This comes as Love Island’s Molly-Mae Hague sparked controversy or saying that “everyone has the same 24 hours in a day” when discussing her success.

As a result, the comment was branded as “tone deaf”.

Payne added: “As the cost of living bites, the challenge that influencers face is maintaining the support and engagement of their audience, not flaunting their wares to those struggling.

“The gap between creators and their followers has never been as challenged – so much so that 24% of Brits say their mental health has been affected by comparing themselves to the unrepresentative lives of the influencers they follow.”
