WATCH: Tesco Christmas 2022 ad from BBH promises an ‘affordable, joyful’ festive season

Tesco has revealed its Christmas 2022 ad, which is airing in full for the first time on Sunday 6 November and addresses the UK’s financial crisis as it promises an ‘affordable, joyful’ festive season for all.

The new festive campaign from the UK’s largest supermarket recognises that that “joy may be in short supply at the moment” and aims to help shoppers “celebrate in style”, regardless of their budget.

Created and developed by creative agency BBH, the 60-second TV ad will air on TV for the first time on Sunday 7 November during the launch episode of ITV’s ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here’.

Set to the soundtrack of Europe’s ‘The Final Countdown’, the ad will also be shown with a number of shorter edits as the campaign comprises of TV, press, OOH, radio, social, in-store and PR. The cast includes Tesco colleagues from across the country.

Spearheaded by BBH creative director Christine Turner along with Marc Rayson and Callum Prior, the ad was directed by Fredrik Bond from MJZ Production. The cast includes professional actors as well as Tesco colleagues from across the country.

According to Tesco’s research, 87% of people say Christmas brings them joy, while over a third (36%) believe it’s more important this year than ever before. The campaign highlights that Christmas remains important to many, despite the cost-of-living crisis putting pressure on finances.

Tesco chief customer officer Alessandra Bellini said it was “very important” that the seasonal campaign reflects “how customers genuinely feel”.

“We understand that it is a tough time at the moment with everyone’s finances under pressure, but we also know that people are looking forward to Christmas – in fact our research shows that there is even more excitement around it than usual.

“This is why we decided to officially stand up for joy this Christmas,” she continued.

“We want to help everyone enjoy the best bits of Christmas, no matter their budget, and so we’ve also included just some of our many little helps that will make your money go further. From us all at Tesco, we wish you a very merry Christmas.”
