Imperial Tobacco appoints new UK head of trade marketing

Imperial Tobacco has appointed Paul Coggins to the role of head of trade marketing for the UK.

Coggins brings vast experience to the role having previously held various positions during his nine year stint for the tobacco company, including Tesco account director, head of key accounts and head of field sales south.

Before joining Imperial Tobacco, Coggins worked in customer business development and market strategy and planning at Procter and Gamble, both in the UK and in Ireland.

“I am really excited to be moving into this new role and heading up the trade marketing team at Imperial Tobacco,” Coggins said. “With an exciting year of innovation planned, I look forward to working closely with our trade partners to capitalise on a wealth of new sales opportunities.”

The news comes months after the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy launched its first-ever TV advertising campaign as it looked to drastically curtail smoking-related litter in the UK.

With cigarette butts accounting for 66% of all litter dropped in the UK – Keep Britain Tidy’s campaign aimed to educate the public on the damaging truth behind smoking-related litter, with each butt taking an estimated 14 years to break apart, releasing numerous toxic substances and microplastics as they do so.
