Jon Snow exposes Ant and Dec as hapless criminals in latest Santander campaign

Legendary broadcaster Jon Snow pairs up with Santander’s ‘honorary’ CEOs Ant and Dec for the bank’s latest celebrity-laden efforts that promotes its new ‘Edge’ current account.

Created by London agency House 337, the two 60-second spots see ‘rival bankers’ Ant and Dec trying in vain to sabotage the firm’s new Edge current account offering, before realising that most of their own staff have betrayed and are banking with their arch-nemesis.

Starring Jon Snow in the news anchor’s chair – the first clip takes the form of a news bulleting that exposes the hapless antics of the Geordie pair, whilst the second effort sees the pair feature in a more hands-on role as they realise the extent of their bank’s inadequacy.

“The Bank of Antandec aren’t just any bank. They’ve always been a bank full of positive intentions, but just haven’t quite got the execution right. However, cracks are starting to show at the Bank of Antandec HQ and the great value being offered by Santander is really starting to impact,” Santander UK marketing director, Dan Sherwood said.

“We think the Santander Edge current account offers customers a better way to manage the day-to-day, whilst also building for the future, through a range of fantastic benefits. We’re excited to have more people check the account out and see how it can work for them.”

Running across TV, video-on-demand, cinema, radio, out-of-home, social media, digital display and in-branch, the key creative will also be supported by a giant projection at Liverpool’s Albert Dock on Saturday (4 May).

House 337 ECD, Jo Moore added: “It’s been a great honour to be part of Santander’s biggest product launch in over a decade. Fittingly, the Edge campaign also marks The Bank of Antandec’s most ambitious outing in 5 years. We’re excited to see how the rivalry between these two financial service powerhouses develops as they tussle for Current Account supremacy.”

I recently saw this ad on ITV and I can honestly say that as a long standing customer with Santander that I am appalled that a renowned news reader and reporter such as Jon Snow has teamed up with a pair of inane, so-called comedians, such as Ant & Dec.
What are Santander thinking of ? Do they think that their customers are all stupid, or is it us that are stupid for investing our money with them? It’s enough to persuade me to change banks !!
