PayPal Ads poaches Uber advertising lead

PayPal have appointed Uber Advertising’s vice-president and general manager Mark Grether to oversee its fledgling advertising proposition.

Grether joins the payment services business after three years with the ride-sharing app, before which he worked as a director at Amazon Ads. He takes up his new role effective immediately

Alongside Grether, PayPal Ads has named former Meta head of product John Anderson to lead its consumer business, which includes running both subsidiary Venmo’s and PayPal Ads’ global product strategies.

Both men will report into executive vice-president, general manager, consumer group and global marketing and communications, Diego Scotti.

“Commerce and advertising are deeply connected, and we believe that the advertising platform we are building at PayPal will become a must-use marketing channel for merchants big and small. I’m thrilled to have Mark join our team and lead this important work,” Scotti said.

He added: “John brings strong experience in developing groundbreaking, personalised consumer experiences to PayPal, which will drive relevance of our brands, fuel our innovation pipeline, and give more reasons for consumers and merchants to choose PayPal.”
