L’Oréal UK and Ireland drops EssenceMediacom X for rival agency

L’Oréal UK and Ireland has switched its media planning and buying account to Publicis Media following a competitive pitch process handled by the Aperto Partnership.

The three-way shootout had also involved the incumbent EssenceMediacomX and MG OMD. According to Campaign, the account is worth an estimated £220m in billings, making it one of the top-spending UK accounts.

The French cosmetics giant will reportedly be served by a bespoke unit within Publicis Media, with the global outfit having taken part in the pitch process as an overarching network and not as a single agency.

“We’ve loved our time working with L’Oréal UK and Ireland and are so proud of the work we’ve created together – it has been an innovative, dynamic and award-winning collaboration,” EssenceMediacomX CEO, Clare Chapman said.

“I want to thank them for their partnership over the last five years and wish them all the very best for the future.”

The move signals a renewed partnership between Publicis Media and L’Oréal, which had previously worked with subsidiary Zenith Media until 2014.

At this stage, both L’Oréal and Publicis Media are yet to comment on the news.
