WACL taps into Pinterest, YouTube and Snap for Represent Me initiative

Women in Advertising Communications and Leadership (WACL) is hitting Youtube, Snapchat and Pinterest to help raise awareness of gender inequality in adland.

The new creative has been carried out with influencer agency Billion Dollar Boy and forms part of WACL’s ongoing ‘Represent Me’ initiative, which celebrates progress within the advertising industry and helps build gender equality in the sector.

Featuring four prominent voices within the industry, the WACL spot shows the women – who are part of a growing body of female storytellers and creators – speaking authentically about their experiences and explaining what representation means to them.

Among them are founder of the UK’s first plus-size dance class Trina Nicole and Jamelia Donaldson, the founder and CEO of Treasure Tress, which is helping to transform the natural hair landscape.

Further speakers include writer, speaker, neurodiversity and LGBTQ+ activist Ellen Jones alongside broadcaster, journalist and disability activist Lucy Edwards.

The work has also been supported by Jessica Lenehan and her team at EssenceMediacomX, with paid advertising credits donated by Pinterest, Snapchat and YouTube.

WACL president Nishma Patel Robb said: “The representation of women in advertising is still disgracefully inadequate. We, as an industry, are not taking this issue seriously enough.”

She continued: “This creative campaign demonstrates the breadth of real women and their stories, showing audiences every woman matters.”

“Seeing the world through the eyes of these creators, all of whom have amassed a significant following, is proof that audiences want to hear from women like these.”

Billion Dollar Boy global CMO Becky Owen added: “This campaign matters because creators are pushing our industry forward. Through the audiences they’ve built, they’ve realised the need for greater representation and their own power to challenge the status quo and demand better for all women in advertising.”

“Creator marketing has put new voices, diverse voices and representative voices at the heart of our industry.”
